Micaela Ortega (b. 2002) is a Colombian artist based in Bogotá, Colombia. Ortega is currently pursuing her Bachelor's in Fine Arts alongside Minors in History & Ceramics at The University of Los Andes.

Artist Statement 

​

I'm a multidisciplinary artist who works primarily with painting, embroidery, textiles, beadwork, and ceramics. Through the exploration of traditionally female-dominated media, my work celebrates femininity and examines the complexities of womanhood and the intersection of gender and politics. My pieces often incorporate elements of abstraction and quotidian life, inviting viewers into a dreamlike world that contemplates the convergence of the mundane and the surreal. Amidst the era of globalization, fast fashion, mass production, and the overflow of information produced by the digital age, my work seeks to celebrate and embrace the slow, meditative process of art-making and to preserve the disappearing traditions of manual craftsmanship. I enjoy exploring the intersection between different mediums and often combine various techniques in my work.
